My role
I was a principal designer on a team of three designers , taking a lead role in the visual and concept design. My role involved user and product research, concept ideation, and high fidelity prototyping using Balsamiq and Figma.
Description
Flying Healthy is a healthcare companion that allows users to monitor their health levels before they fly into outer space. This app facilitates health insurance pre-flight by putting the user first, allowing them to view a personal health scan and any physical and mental health risks specific to them. Flying Healthy allows users to either insure or monitor specific health concerns, by adding them to their health plan or insurance plan.
This app conquers trepidation surrounding the cost of health insurance by putting the user in control, and showing that the insurance is worth the price.
The Problem
We were given the brief to create a screen-based device or program that would assist in future commercial space flight to Mars. As a team we explored various avenues and decided to tackle the issue of health insurance pre-flight.
By analysing user feedback of existing health insurance programs, and understanding the health risks involved with space travel today, we found that:
Process to Final Mockup
We created three initial concepts based on data collected from online ethnography and competitor analyses. We subsequently analysed two of these concepts using Minimum Viable Product tables in order to ascertain the most important screens to incorporate into a combined design utilising these two concepts.
Two proposed user flows were created and tested using A/B testing with potential users. We chose a concept that had an integrated home page, allowing users to access all areas of the app from one central hub.
Following the creation of wireframes in Balsamiq, we created a high fidelity mockup in Figma. This interactive prototype was then tested with the System Usability Scale (SUS) and a heuristic evaluation to ascertain usability.
